EDITIONS, 13-24 FEBRUARY 2019
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: DEADLINE, 1 DECEMBER 2018
Editions 2019, our annual celebration of print and Victorian-based printmaking.2019 will be the seventh Editions and it has become a go-to event for Victorian printmakers. The exhibition strives to celebrate the diverse aesthetic qualities inherent within printmaking media, a celebration of tradition whilst embracing contemporary innovations within the printed form. A now established exhibition of such scale provides a safe platform for artists ranging from emerging to more established to explore new and exciting print processes and approaches to image-making. That platform also provides the opportunity to exhibit multiple works from current practice, providing audiences a greater understanding and insight of where the printmaker is ‘coming from’. And having featured intaglio, relief and lithography in a range of substrates and printed on a range of surfaces covering diverse subjects, those audiences have been challenged in their understanding of what exactly is a ‘print’.
Editions juxtaposes traditional techniques expertly done alongside more innovative approaches. It’s that balance of a mix of the traditional and the contemporary that is being searched for. But ultimately Editions pushes the hand-constructed multiple in a digitally saturated world, celebrating the manual, the labour, the craft (for this reason we do not accept digital imagery unless it forms only part of the final image). Upon visiting the exhibition, we want visitors to be overwhelmed by the sheer sense of labour and time-spent that is worthy of celebration and respect. Editions celebrates the artist and the art.
Editions is a curated exhibition based on open submissions. Any Victorian-based printmaker can submit work for consideration.
There is no formal application form. Simply email up to five images from one single body of work to email@example.com alongside an artist statement about the work. This statement will appear in the printed full-colour catalogue produced specifically for the exhibition. Please provide details of all works submitted, including:-
Dimensions (framed and unframed)
Total number in edition
There is no size restriction but all work should be framed unless 76 x 52 cm (full imperial sheet of paper) or larger OR the aesthetic of the work is for it to be unframed (the latter to be discussed with Keith or Tim at Tacit). Whilst new work is welcomed, for 2019, the submitted work should be dated no earlier than 2017 and should not have been seen extensively throughout galleries in Melbourne and Victoria (Editions is not a round-up of 2018 exhibitions).
There is no fee for submitting work but $60 is payable if selected to exhibit, which includes a copy of the catalogue. Tacit Galleries take 20% commission on all sales. Final selection will take place in the first 7-10 days of December and artists will be notified accordingly. If not already provided, a hi-res image of each selected work will be required at this stage.
