The artist's emotional response to the landscape is stimulated by colour and light. In these painting, Christine Gibbs has focused on coastal areas in distant places such as the Berkeley River region of the far north west of Western Australia and in southern Tasmania. Recurrent themes are the fragility of the environment and the species within it.

Texture and form, both structured and free flowing were created by building layer upon layer of synthetic polymer paint with collage used when further structure was required. Sketchbooks and photography are essential to Gibbs' practice.

This exhibition supports Trust for Nature (Vic).
