Dinusha Joseph - 'Private Hinterland'
Wednesday 24 October - Sunday 17 November 2018
In this series of abstract works, Dinusha Joseph explores the relationship between the painted surface and state of mind. The paintings are intended to create an internal reflection or evoke a memory in the viewer. In this sense they are private. Joseph is interested in the process of the application of paint in a range of layers, and textures, and the mood which that generates. Inspiration for the works comes from both the natural and man-made worlds.
The paintings build their energy from the triggering of marks in response to earlier marks. Colour plays a key role in the way in which they are formed and can be a foundation for shape. The shades and tones used inspire different states of mind, which in turn may be subjective for each viewer. The painted surface is used to generate ambience and contemplation.
