Born in Washington DC, Kristen Solury moved to New York City at the age of 20 where she attended the Pratt Institute, studying architecture and construction management before moving to Australia in 2005. Art was promoted as a hobby, a spare time activity. So, Solury worked in construction for nearly 20 years before her husband encouraged a focus on art, full-time.
When younger, school museum visits and classes always covered the old masters and largely ignored modern artists. Over the years, Solury explored and developed a strong passion for mid-century modern and abstract art. Initial interest in realism and hyper detail passed and the artist now works in a more abstract, expressive fashion, letting a viewer make up their own story about a particular piece.
