Pete Gurrie - 'Of Birth & Construction'

Wednesday 24 August - Sunday 11 September 2016

Of Birth & Construction continues on from the concepts explored within Pete Gurrie's previous exhibition - Code - at Tacit in 2013.

This new series of work explores the beauty of functionality. Whilst observing the design of circuitry, architecture, town planning and data systems in their man-made environments, there was a realisation. While they are artificial, with a clear purpose and well-considered design, they begin to enmesh with their landscape to create structures and patterns which are both elegant and beautiful.

Beyond design, this work is personal. The contrast between what is constructed and the environment in which it exists draws reference and contrast to our relationships and lives: It serves to remind us how balance is a continual pursuit. The harder we try to force balance, the less natural it becomes.
