Ruth McIntosh - 'Shades of Mahler'
Wednesday 26 September - Sunday 21 October 2018
Shades of Mahler is a series of paintings of the artist’s interpretation of Gustav Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony (Symphony No. 2).
For many years, Ruth McIntosh taught art and graphic design and worked as a portrait artist, painting prominent figures such as Ms. Jeanne Pratt AO, Mr. Harold Mitchell AC and The Most Reverend Dr. Philip Freier, Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne and Primate of Australia.
Her interest in classical singing, particularly recital singing, has been part of her life for many years. In particular, she specialises in performing Mahler’s song cycles. The continual ‘tug of war’ between her love of singing and painting has finally come to rest in this exhibition.
