lluminations has its origins in a close connection between painting and photography through an exploration of painting with light. The inspiration for the chemographs and macro photographic images in this exhibition is landscape and the wildlife within. A fusion of painting and photography techniques pushed the boundaries to produce images that encourage interpretation.

Experimenting with colour, composition and light, Gibbs' aim was to create a painterly effect. Materials used included food dyes, vinegar, lemon juice; fibre based photographic paper and masks created from salt and collages from fragments of books exposed in natural light and in the darkroom.
