Joseph Carter Weidenbaum
Joseph Carter Weidenbaum's artistic practice revolves around the creation of Assemblage Collages and which begin with the search for secondhand materials as part of the process.
He primarily focuses on collecting 20th-century ephemera - paper, books, cardboard discarded packaging etc, each containing imbedded stories from their former usage.
Carefully curating the materials for each work, Carter Weidenbaum aims for visual harmony, balance, and specific colours and textures.
Employing various techniques such as soaking, separating the layers, cutting and sanding the various elements and with further additional methods such as staining, painting, stamping etc., he slowly builds up layers, transforming the different components to build the works.
The work often feature printed text, random drawings, handwritten notes, addresses, numbers, stamps and various markings, each adding further to the narrative.
For Carter Weidenbaum, the collage process is a therapeutic one where he can immerse himself in a meditative state, piecing together conscious and unconscious ideas to construct a visual narrative. The undertaking of deconstructing and reconstructing these historic ephemeral representations weaves disparate threads of past and present, a reflection of the mystery of time and consciousness.

2024 The Interzone
The walls were coated with countless layers of white latex paint. Factory space. He knew this kind of room, this kind of building: the tenants would operate in the interzone where art wasn’t quite crime, crime not quite art.
The title for the body of work is inspired by the book by William Gibson's Neuromancer, the first in the Sprawl trilogy and considered a Cyberpunk genre classic.
The works depict abstract figures who represent Cyber Hackers, present day bad actors with futuristic dystopian and artificial intelligent features, whose main objective is to cause major disruptions in various fields including political, economic and mostly societal.
